Letter (2025)

HD video, black and white, sound, 4:09, 2025

For best audio experience please wear headphones. (binaural mix)

Letter is a short film made of still images and animated text. The images were originally created as photograms for a photo series I titled Undetectable. Photograms are a cameraless photographic technique invented in the 19th century; the images are created by placing objects directly onto photosensitive paper, exposing the paper to light and then processing them in the darkroom. The objects I used to make these images are salt, sugar, pepper, star anise, balloons, a light bulb, objects I found in the darkroom, and my hands. The hand-drawn animated text describes several futile attempts to communicate with an unknown entity. Hope and acceptance, connection, dream, desire and speculation characterize this short work.

Production, Images, Sound, Edit: Jenny Perlin
