2K video, color, silent, 45:08, 2025
This video was filmed in 2022 and 2023 at the Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, Sweden. I was invited to observe and film scientists at work and their experiments being launched on stratospheric balloons. This video shows three different stratospheric balloon launches. You can see the balloons being filled with helium and then lifting the experiments which are attached to a big steel cube called the gondola. In September 2023 I also put an experiment on the balloon, the result of which is shown in the exhibition. The title comes from a 19th century advertisement for the popular public balloon launches in England.
Production, Camera, Edit: Jenny Perlin
Filmed at Esrange Space Center, Kiruna, Sweden, September 2022 and 2023.
Special thanks to David Hagsved and Armelle Frenea-Schmidt, Swedish Space Corporation
Support provided by the Oslo National Academy of Art and The New School, New York.
